Microchipping

About

Looking for a quick and permanent way to identify your pet? Try microchipping! Microchipping is a safe procedure that involves implanting a small, rice-sized chip just under the loose skin between the shoulder blades. It is injected with a hypodermic needle, a thin, hollow needle commonly used for administering medications, vaccines, or drawing blood. No surgery or anesthesia is required; however, if your pet is already undergoing any of these procedures, microchipping can still be performed. The microchip operates without batteries, using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. When scanned with a handheld scanner, the radio waves emitted transmit a unique ID number, allowing for your pet’s identification. Keep in mind that the microchip is not intended to function as a GPS device or provide real-time location data; it solely assists in pet identification.

Importance

Why choose microchipping? Microchipping is a permanent and reliable form of identification for pets that cannot be altered or lost, unlike collars or tags. While we hope your pet never gets lost, if they do, animal shelters, veterinarians, or animal control officers can scan the chip to retrieve your pet’s unique identification number. Once identified, this allows for a reunion with the owner, as the contact information is linked to the identification. Pets without microchips may be adopted out or even euthanized, depending on the circumstances. However, a microchip can significantly increase the likelihood of your lost pet returning home safely. As a result, to give you peace of mind, microchipping ensures that your pet can be identified and reunited with you if they ever get lost.
