What to Expect

Welcome

At Mayfield Animal Hospital, we look forward to meeting you and your companions! Book an appointment today at (905) 913 – 6444. We strive to make every visit seamless and comfortable while providing you and your beloved pet with the care and services they need. When you arrive for your appointment, our veterinary team, including the veterinarian and technicians, will warmly greet you and give you their full attention. Our team will then escort you to an examination room, where basic physical tests, such as weight checks, will be performed. During this time, we’ll also gather any medical records or vaccination information to ensure our records are up-to-date and to help the veterinarian gain a better understanding of your pet’s health. Following that, a veterinarian will enter the examination room to discuss any concerns you have about your pet, which may include detailed questions about their health history, behaviours, and diet. In a typical physical examination, the veterinarian will check your pet’s eyes, ears, coat, and overall health. Depending on the situation, they may also recommend any necessary diagnostic tests or treatments tailored to your pet’s specific needs. Please feel free to ask questions and share any concerns you may have about your pet’s health, as we are dedicated to ensuring the best care for your beloved companions.

Medical History

For every visit to the hospital, particularly your first, it is important to bring any relevant medical records or vaccination information for your pet. Medical records are crucial for our veterinary team as they provide insights into your pet’s lifestyle, past illnesses, surgeries, and treatments that may have occurred outside of this facility. This allows our team to identify any gaps or patterns that may have contributed to the current issues your pet is experiencing. Moreover, a thorough medical history can allow our veterinarians to make well-informed decisions regarding diagnosis and treatments with respect to vital informations about allergies, conditions, and prior medications. If you are uncertain about any aspect of your pet’s past medical history, it is still important to share this information with our team, as we are committed to providing the best care possible regardless. Overall, maintaining a comprehensive medical history at our facility allows us to optimize our care as we understand your companion’s lifestyle and risk factors.

Annual Check - Up

At Mayfield Animal Hospital, we encourage regular wellness exams to help you feel confident about your pet’s health and to facilitate the early detection of any potential health concerns. We recommend annual wellness exams for most pets, but for those transitioning into adulthood (age 7 and older), more frequent check-ups every four to six months are advisable. These evaluations include preventive care measures such as vaccinations, parasite control, and dental health. A more detailed explanation includes:

  • Monitoring vital signs, including blood pressure, body temperature, pulse rate, and respiration rate

  • Blood and urine testing to assess vital organ function and check for signs of parasites (e.g., heartworm and tick-borne diseases)

  • Fecal analysis to detect parasites and digestive problems

  • Dental health evaluations to assess oral health

  • Analyzing skin and coat for any signs of allergies, skin infections, or underlying conditions

  • Nutritional assessment and body weight evaluation to assess obesity

  • Vaccination updates to ensure all immunizations are current.

Overall, annual wellness checks are strongly recommended to ensure that your furry companion enjoys the healthy and happy life they deserve.

Payment

All payments are expected to be due at the time of drop-off or prior to the discharge of your pet. Our team strives to ensure that our fees are reasonable, and we will discuss all costs with you before any check-ups, diagnoses, or treatments, so there are no surprises. We accept various methods of payments, including credit/debit cards, and electronic payments. However, please note that we do not offer billing for later dates and do not accept checks or cash. Additionally, if your pets have insurance, please inform us so we can add it to their profile and adjust the billing accordingly. If you have any additional questions about your fees contact us before your scheduled appointment.
